The law protects property, contracts, life, and order. But the law is not the leader. The law is the road. Someone still decides where it was meant to go.
I once used those words to explain why Promise World opened a balcony the city had closed. The service succeeded. The crowd left. The cameras kept the injury outside the frame.
The person standing inside the exception
Calvin Moore held the important door. When it caught, he pulled. The door opened. His knee did not. The rule had already pointed toward a person I had not pictured clearly enough.
A leader may still believe an exception is necessary. He should first write the name of the person who will carry the risk if his judgment is wrong.
