Purpose Is Wanting Without Shame
Name the request before a softer word makes the desire look cleaner than it is.
Chapter One
The first practice begins before institution, doctrine, or crowd. It asks for a request and then restores the person on the other side of it.
The complete practice
Before noon tomorrow, ask for something you do not need but believe you have earned the right to seek.
Ask for the better table, lower price, larger office, improved contract, or chance to speak with the person in charge.
State what you want.
Do not build a long defense around it.
Then stop speaking.
You may hear no.
Thank the person and decide whether another attempt is worth making.
Before you ask, consider what the request requires from the other person.
Time.
Money.
Labor.
A smaller place at the table.
The surrender of something he wanted too.
Knowing the price does not mean you should refuse to ask.
It means you should know what you are asking for.
